A Low Baseline for Contentment Does Not Have to Hold You Back
Show Notes

The most major mindset shift I had to make while becoming a career artist was the idea that "real work" involved sweat and using my hands. This mindset had me believing two things throughout my journey: First, that I was always one step away from becoming broke and homeless.

Second, if I were a responsible adult, I should quit and get a real job. Throughout this struggle, I've battled a clinically low baseline for contentment. In other words, my depression takes the shape of permanent melancholy and I struggle to keep a level of satisfaction in what I do. Every day is a battle to keep on working toward my dreams. - Jason Matias

WELCOME BACK to A Mental Health Break. This is the show where we normalize the conversation on mental health. After Host Vincent A. Lanci suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and into recovery, he learned that he needed to prioritize my mental health.

When Jason left the Airforce after 6 years of service, he was terrified of becoming another homeless vet. While he tried some other conventional jobs, he couldn’t shake his calling as an artist. Constantly obsessed with finding the light, Jason decided to put all his efforts into making a fine art career work.

Now Jason runs a fine art business, which has supported him by generating over $100K in sales a year for the past 10 years (including 2020). His work has taken him all over the globe, from the United States to Abu-Dhabi to Indonesia, and has been published in National Geographic.
