This is a playbook for survivors and caregivers. It is my last few days as a 34-year-old, and something I've always struggled with is unrealistic expectations and artificial deadlines, right? These deadlines I make up in my head to do these things as an entrepreneur. And as I put together the TBI Recovery Extended Edition, I began to overload myself. And it's something that I tried to stay mindful with where I take my walks, I take my breaks, but after the brain injury putting together these books, I used to find therapeutic, and I do, but now when I also tried to have the planner come out, the recovery planner I spoke about a bit on the same day, it became just too much for me to handle. If you've ever found yourself feeling like this, right? Overwhelmed, setting maybe too big of a table for yourself to sit at, please let me know. I love to connect with you. You can message me on social media or email me at podcasts by lancy at gmail.com. And with that, I would like to welcome everyone to another episode here on a mental health break, the number one podcast for mental health champions. Again, you are never alone. We are brought to you today by Living Proof, TBI Coaching.com, traumatic brain injury coaching for families and survivors and their caregivers. All right, mental health champions. I talked a little bit about my vulnerability, right? The struggles I've been facing recently. I don't know if it's just a bigger birthday, so I'm in my own head a little bit more, but I am very excited to have this book come out, TBI Recovery, the extended edition. What's in the extended edition, you might be asking, right? And I'm really, really excited to dive into that. But again, before I do, I want to remind you that if you are feeling like I felt, you're still taking your breaks, you're still taking your walks, but you're still overwhelmed. You may have just a little bit too much on your plate. So go out there, take a deep breath, pivot, restructure, or do what's best to make you feel back at your baseline. So the first thing I want to talk about, and I'd be remiss if I didn't shout out a friend I met on LinkedIn, Melanie, who's been a big push into getting this book done. She gave me some great feedback on some things, along with a lot of other people. Big shout out to my aunts, as always, my first readers of my books. It's exciting, this book. I'm proud of it. I really hope it helps so many people and some of the things that you can look forward to seeing, right? It's on Amazon for pre-order, only 99 cents. If you'd like to support the project, please search TBI Recovery Extended Edition, Vincent A. Lancy, or I'll put the link right here in the bio. We've got companion resources, right? This is so important for the people taking care of us survivors, helping us not just with our food and showering, but also getting to appointments. So I've got companion resources in there that did not exist in the first release. Exercises activities, right? I went back into the original manuscript. The manuscript is the book's running version, and I found some stuff I clipped that I use privately in coaching, so I made sure to feed back in the new manuscript to give you some of that. But the next one is something I'm very proud of, and that's travel tips. This is something that Melanie, I told you about. She let me know about this. I had no idea. So I'm really hoping that this helps a lot of people. And essentially, before you travel at any airport, or I should say many airports, I'm not sure if it's everywhere. I know it started overseas, but there is a program I introduce in the book that allows you to pre-register before your trip to have airport accommodations, whether that's being around big crowds and a line or many other services. This is migraines, traumatic brain injuries, invisible injuries, and hidden injuries is what's this called for to help the most. So please get ready to read about this in the book because I can't wait for it to help you and your loved ones. Again, I'm 13 years out of recovery. More than that. And I've never heard of this program. So stay tuned for that in the book. Now the next piece is huge. There's some other things in there I'm keeping as a surprise for you readers, and I can't wait to hear about it from you. But the next thing is something I'm truly proud of, and what makes this really and truly the extended edition of TBI Recovery. How many of you have been with me since the beginning? Not the beginning of my accident in 2015 after graduation, right? I'm talking this entrepreneurial journey. My first book. Who remembers what that's called? Left for Dead, a Story of Redemption. I did a lot of unique things with this book, and as I reread it, chopped and screwed it, my brain was in such a different place. Big shout out to Ray, my editor who saved the day after I was robbed. On a smaller budget back in 2019, from my editor who took my money and essentially ran Ray Saved the Day. That's a side note for entrepreneurship. You will get continued to get knocked down, thrown off course, but never give up. As you're reading that book, it starts with me from birth. You get to know a lot of intimate details about my life to really bring you, the amazing reader and supporter, closer to me. But as you keep going, you eventually find, as you get chapter six, seven, eight, my mother's journal from while I was a traumatic brain injury patient at Tampa General Hospital. This includes all the ridiculous things I said, did, ate, went through, treatments, therapies, shots, you name it, visitors. This I hope brings clarity and a voice for anyone who is in those shoes right now or has been, where you need to go back and regain some clarity. My family did not come from a medical background, right? So we had to ask a lot of questions too. So I hope as you read this journal that goes up until I get released at the hospital, you pick up on some things. Some things you missed, some things you never thought of, because I promise you are not alone. There's also some parts in there, of course, about hospital food and how I got through that. The visitors and how they were slowly allowed to come, the electronics and sensory overload, the room overload, the patient overload, switching rooms again and again, units changed, you name it. Getting dressed by a stranger each morning because I couldn't do it myself. That's underwear to clothes. Not comfortable, right? When an older woman will come in to get you dressed and then wheel you down the hallway to ride the arm bicycle. In my opinion, one of the most tedious tasks there is. I strongly dislike this, but I had to do it. You'll learn all about in that book if you pick it up, Left For Dead, a story of redemption. I'll go ahead and drop the link in the description too. You'll learn a lot of things that happened even right after that. I mean, that book ends at a point where my entrepreneurial journey started back in 2015. I do want to write Left for Dead 2 and 3, but right now I'm just not ready to do it. Again, you'll get the full journal updated in present time in TBI Recovery Extended Edition. You get all that. The cherry on top that I'll provide you, and this is, of course, not the secret still. There's a couple things trickled in there, some changes in the writing. But an extra survivor story. You met some great people in my life, TBI warriors and survivors. You got Adrian in there, Corey, Ian, John, and Zoe. We're now joined by Cameron, who I met on social media, became a traumatic brain injury coaching client. He is someone who is a father above all, who saw his life take a turn. Just like many of you reading this book, or caregivers, someone in their lives. So you'll hear another perspective, which I'm so proud to include. Because again, if you followed my journey, you know the one thing I wish I had more of was interactions and learnings from TBI survivors and caregivers, families and friends. Had amazing support over at Tampa General Hospital, but I did not interact with as many people who have recovered before I was released, right after I was released, until I started engaging in brain injury support groups to be a speaker at and all those assorted things. So in just a few short days, I turned 35, but my gift to the world, and I hope you could celebrate with me, is TBI Recovery Extended Edition, with added companion resources, exercises, travel tips, my mother's journal from the hospital stay, and more from Left for Dead, a Story of Redemption. This is a playbook for survivors and caregivers, a TBI roadmap for transitioning back to a fulfilling life. We've got the recovery planners coming this fall. That's brain injury breakthroughs coming this fall. Oh man, I wish I had these resources, and that's really why I'm putting them out to the world. Buckle up, enjoy you are never alone, and I'll catch you on the next episode right here on a mental health break. Your Sunday reset. Have a great day, folks.
